Sampled the new Biryani & Pulao Collection from IT

Sampled the new Biryani & Pulao Collection from ITC Gardenia and can just say one thing - order now. I sampled the Kale Moti Pulao inspired from the royal kitchens of the Mughal Dynasty, a great amalgamation of fragrant basmati rice with chick peas and select spices. Also tried the Subz Paneer Pulao - saffron tinged basmati rice, teamed with cottage cheese and seasonal vegetables, cooked on "dum" with hints of cardamom. Both the dishes were flavourful, fragrant and cooked with minimal spices that allowed the ingredients to shine through.

The best part is that the food was packaged in environmentally-friendly corrugated paper boxes and was still hot when I ate it. Starting at INR 625, these dishes are available in three variations: chicken, mutton, and vegetarian. You can choose baingan ka salan as an accompaniment, or raita (anar kheera, onion pachadi, or sarson). I also had a delectable gulab jamun sent complimentary which was the sweetest end to this fabulous meal.

The food is available for online ordering via food aggregators across 10 hotels in six cities (Bengaluru’s ITC Gardenia, and ITC Windsor; New Delhi’s ITC Maurya; Sheraton New Delhi Hotel; Mumbai’s ITC Maratha, and ITC Grand Central; Kolkata’s ITC Sonar; Hyderabad’s ITC Kohenur, and ITC Kakatiya; and Chennai’s ITC Grand Chola). Additionally, the dishes can also be ordered via ITC’s F&B app and Takeaway option.

The red avadavat (Amandava amandava), red munia or strawberry finch, is a sparrow-sized bird of the family Estrildidae. It is found in the open fields and grasslands of tropical Asia and is popular as a cage bird due to the colourful plumage of the males in their breeding season (Wikipedia). Thanks Sujith for helping me spot this one, it was a memorable morning.

Curated by Chef Gagandeep Singh Sawhney, the special menu will feature ancestral recipes that have been passed down to him by his grandmother from a bygone era. Prepared with the same love and attention that Chef Sawhney’s grandmother cooked with years ago, the rich, robust and rustic dishes are perfect to be enjoyed with loved ones during nippy evenings. Mildly spicy, lightly marinated, slow-cooked or grilled on tandoor, these delicacies features succulent meat, root vegetables and flavourful greens.

A pair of Motted Wood Owls. One of my favourite birds I was thrilled to see this thanks to a fellow birder in Lalbagh.

Medium-sized patchy-looking owl with dark eyes. Densely-marked orange-and-gray coloration is unique. Typically gives single hoots, but also gives an odd, mellow tremolo vocalization in the breeding season. A lowland species, favoring groves and clusters of trees in open plains and on the edges of cultivated areas. (courtesy ebird.org)
