Bird watching groups are making sure Bangaloreans appreciate the diverse avian life of the city

Avian Walk

Started in 2008, Bangalore Birding Adventures primarily conducts bird watching and bird photography tours around Bangalore, Mysore and Coorg. Led by Bopanna Pattada, the bird watching is usually in Nandi Hills, the surroundings of Bannerghatta National Park and Hoskote Lake. The trips are tailored according to the customer inquiry and the cost depends on the group size, whether transport is required and the distance to the location. Birding Cues

Deepa Mohan a regular birder has been conducting bird walks both as part of BnG birds as well as doing walks for school children and corporates. She does the fourth Sunday walk for BnG group and chooses different destinations around Bangalore like Valley School, Hoskote Lake, Jakkur Lake, Madiwala Lake. The walks are typically in the morning but on rare occasions an evening walks are also done. Typically walks start at 6:30 am or even earlier in summer. Winged Wonders

Dr. M.B. Krishna a veteran birder does free bird walks in Lalbagh every second Sunday. These walks are free for all and start at 7:30 a.m. at the Glass House. The walks typically last for a couple of hours and as part of the walk the birds sighted include barbets, fly catchers, warblers, mynas, kites, magpie robins, cormorants and the like. Having conducted this walk for many decades now, he is well versed with the kind of birds that visit Lalbagh and is a storehouse of information on the birds sighted here. Soar High

The Bangalore Birdwatchers came together in the early 1970s, courtesy the efforts of Dr. Joseph George and Mr. Zafar Futehally. They meet every first Sunday of the month at Hebbal and every second Sunday of the month at Lalbagh. The third and fourth Sundays are announced on the website bngbirds.com. The outings typically start at around 7:30 am and end by 10 am. Birdwatching is free and the organisers admit that interest and enthusiasm are the only requirements.
