Forage – Restaurant Review

Spread the love

Located in 6th Main in Indiranagar, Forage is all about food as it should be – clean, fuss free and tasty.

Conceptualised by Mayura Kutappa, brought to life by Chef Himanshu Dimri and managed and run by Nikki Ponappa, Forage is a new age restaurant that focuses on good food. According to Chef Himanshu, “good food only comes with good produce and clean food produces good energy. Simple, straightforward and wholesome is the way we look at food here. Food has to get together into a bowl of wholesome goodness. We are completely gluten free except we have sourdough bread now made by a good friend of ours.” Forage is tucked away in Indiranagar’s 6th Main and has about 40 covers. The upper level is also available for events when requires. The decor is contemporaneity chic with a mix of outdoor and indoor seating interspersed with a wall of books, plants and artifacts that add a special character to the overall decor.

Kale Wraps

Starting my meal with the healthy Kale Wraps filled with pumpkin, sticky black rice and Goat cheese was a good decision thanks to Chef. These light bites are not just a nutritional powerhouse but also taste as awesome.

I also tried the Miso Tofu Maki, where crunchy strips of zucchini are rolled with creamy tofu and miso and the smooth paste almost tastes like hummus.

My vote however goes to the Roasted Cauliflower. These thinly sliced – well they are almost wafer thin oven roasted cauliflowers are served with toasted pine nuts and Parmesan shavings are are delightfully light and yummy.

Chargrilled vegetables

For the main course I tried a hearty plate of Chargrilled vegetables including gently roasted bell peppers, zucchini, broccoli, onions served on a bed of smoked cauliflower puree (a revelation) and seasoned with caper salt. The plate itself is large and hearty and it is the puree that comes as a winner with its soft texture teaming wonderfully with the crunchy vegetables.

Basil and Lime Pannacotta

And ending the meal on a sweet note, I tried the Basil and Lime Pannacotta with coconut milk and honey that made the end as sweet as it was when this meal started. Chef keeps adding specials every now and then and these make their way into the menu as well. “The food here is honest – we have an open kitchen and everything is precious and beautiful so that is what reflected in the food,” says Himanshu and I could not agree more.
