Four places in and around Bangalore to catch the first sunrise of 2020

It is the start of a new decade and what better way than to welcome it with a sunny twist?

One of the best times of the day is at sunrise when there is a nice mellow vibe and a slight nip in the air. And the first sunrise of the decade is something that is special and must not be missed. We tell you four places where you can see the first sunrise of 2020

Lalbagh

The city’s stunning lung space is spread over 240 acres and has an artificial lake that is a great point to see the sunrise. The first rays of the sun rising against the lake that has a fringe of palm trees on one end, makes for a compelling visual like no other. With the air quality pristine at that time and the warm rays of the majestic sun that reflect on the lake what you will see is a fantastic explosion of colours that make for a perfect moment that will give you memories through the year. Interestingly if you are lucky you can see a peach hued sky that also changes the colour of the lake in the morning. The lush environs of Lalbagh offer several other sunrise spots as well – in fact you can get some good images of the sunrise with rays filtering through the thick canopy of trees as well when you are here.

Kanva Dam

Located about 60 km from Bangalore, the Kanva Reservoir is an artificial lake that is nestled amidst a lush rural landscape. There are several trees that are growing in the middle of the water that also attracts several migratory birds. There are several cormorants that are perched atop the trees here as well as birds like bulbul, kingsfisher and barbet that are sighted quite easily. In fact you can also capture the silhouette of the birds against the sunrise. The lake is bordered by a thick line of coconut palms and the hillocks of Ramanagar make for a perfect picture frame. The reservoir is a great place to visit at sunrise as it is calm and serene and fortunately you will see very few people here. The sunrise from this place is special as it is amidst natural vistas and you are guaranteed to get picture perfect shots as well.

Hebbal Lake

Located in the midst of a bustling skyline where skyscrapers jostle for space among the old trees, Hebbal Lake is a small oasis in the middle of Bangalore. Usually seen when you make your way to the airport the lake is on the Outer Ring Road amd was constructed in 1537 by Kempe Gowda. Covering an area of 150 acres with a park, the lake makes is a great spot to see the sunrise. This park has an entry charge as well as a parking fee so make sure you note the same. With several walking paths under tree canopies, several lawns and the beautiful lake itself there is no dearth of places from where you can see the sunrise. The lake also attracts many species of birds and ducks, herons, coots and egrets are typically sighted here. The expanse of water that merges seamlessly with the shore makes for a beautiful sight that is perfect for photos of the sunrise.

Nandi Hills

There is something magical of seeing the sunrise from atop a hill and this is exactly what you can witness when you head to Nandi Hills located about 60 km from Bangalore. A bikers’ paradise the hills are home to the famed Nandi Temple on the highest point of the slope that is surrounded by a nice garden. The first rays of the sun give a mellow glow to the entire landscape and bring the entire place alive with hues of warm yellow and orange notes. The sunrise above the canopy of clouds framed by the many trees is a sight to behold and one that is popular with many people so make sure you reach on time for a vantage spot. There is a grill that is built on the edge of the hills that is a favourite background to capture the sunrise especially as a silhouette. There are a few outcrops that are other favourite spaces to capture the sunrise but make sure you are careful as the place is quite crowded.
