Improvisation theatre or the Improv theatre is taking centerstage as it helps a whole new generation get on stage.

Lights On

Playback by First Drop Theatre started by Dr. Radhika Jain and Bejoy Balagopal has been into improv/Playback Theatre performance space for nearly a decade. They conduct a 30-hours/4-day training in the basic skills, values and rituals of Playback Theatre. This covers the basic skills of Improv and Interactive theatre and dives deeper into the various forms within Playback Theatre. Participants get to explore the different roles within a Playback ensemble; that of a Conductor, Musician and Actor. The workshop is designed for those who have no prior exposure to Playback Theatre or any form of theatre, as well as to people who are relatively new to this format. The curriculum is as per what is outlined by the Centre for Playback Theatre, USA.

Show Time

Lahe Lahe been the host of Playback theatre by the Actors Collective since its launch and it has been a regular monthly feature on the last Sunday of the month (or Saturday if that happens to be the last day of the month). Playback Theatre conducts workshops twice a year typically in April and August at Lahe Lahe and participants can attend rehearsals which happen 2-3 times a month.

Comic Timing

Improv Comedy Bangalore (ICB) spear headed by Nasir Engineer has over the past couple of years in Improv, has been working steadfastly towards making the Improv community larger on a much external level. On an internal level, ICB has been bringing improv to people as a tool to change their perspective on life through the principals of Improvisation. Nasir brings about these correlations between Improv and life in my workshops. Improv classes happen on any theme and there are basics to advanced courses that are 3 hours to 50 hours long.
