The Concept

The house is complete with unique design features that takes one on a sensory journey through varied materials and handicrafts. We conceptualised the zones of the house to be divided around this courtyard. The courtyard is designed like a stepwell, with the steps functioning as a seating element to enjoy the rare ficus tree that is open to sky. It is a beautiful experience to enjoy during the monsoons in Pune as it seems to invite rain within the confines of the home while still protecting its residents,” says Seolekar.

Incidentally, he travelled across the country and personally sourced the materials that have been used for this project, adding to the contemporary Indian aesthetic of the interiors. Most of the furniture and accessories are from his lifestyle brand, KOY and have been almost entirely handcrafted in-house by his team of local artisans, including craftsmen, woodworkers and metalsmiths.
