The Lalit Ashok’s Boulangerie at Bangalore was re-launched last week in Bangalore and I was invited to be part of the launch. Being the end of the year, this is arguably the best season for all things sweet and this launch was perfectly timed.

A large ginger bread house stuffed with goodies welcome us to the Boulangerie located at the lounge level. The Boulangerie has superbly crafted breads of different kinds and have a perfect blend of taste and texture. A decadent range of fresh bread, pastries, confectioneries, pies, cookies, chocolates and more were all stacked up making every gastronomic smile.

Incidentally, The Lalit has an interesting history with all things ‘bakery’. The Kolkata property – Great Eastern has a legend of selling thousands of cakes in the holiday season. The bakery is a tribute to the legendary bakery serving confectionery, savouries and English breakfast that celebrates the rich alchemy of flavours that has defined the Great Eastern Hotel for nearly 165 years.
LB3The sinful delights include a range of pastries, breads and cookies. We sampled a lot of them at the lawns were separate counters had been set up for breads and dips, Tibetian Momos, Chaat, Indian Street Food, Pizzas, Teas, Coffees and of course an array of desserts. Superbly crafted each of these dishes have taste at the forefront.

The do was kept simple yet classy and since the guests were limited in number, I could catch up with Bhaskaran T, General Manager at The Lalit Ashok Bangalore who said that the long term plan is to take the bakery outside the hotel as well and make the delicacies accessible to all. The breads and pastries have been reasonably priced to also debunk the myth that a bakery in a 5 Star hotel is inaccessible.
