Trend Check

Amalgamation of two very different materials like for instance cork or leather with glass as well as application of indigenous handicrafts and the latest technology helps to create the fabulous design is a new trend in luxury lights. Vishal Singh, Founder & Managing Director, Vizion opines, “industrial chic lights have made a comeback in the luxury lighting segment, with people moving towards richer finishes and tones for their 21st century décor. A blend of different materials are used in creating such site-specific lighting products. Additionally, growing number of customers are encouraging the traditional art and handcrafted designs and including them in their interior decor. “For instance, hand-beaten brass dome with hand-painted design or lamp posts with intricate bidri work and other Indian crafts are regaining popularity. A blend of contemporary form with traditional design is much in trend. Customers are open to experimenting and going beyond the classical understanding of the term ‘luxury’. While in the past, luxurious lighting was contained to chandeliers or fabric domes, the category now includes some innovative designs. There are cases where the lighting feature has played the central role in the space and the decor has been designed in tune with it,” avers Shetty. Residential spaces have a huge scope for luxury lighting, as these personal spaces are shared by families and cherished for generations. While hospitality spaces are public areas, where most often the decor is changed within a couple of years to retain the attraction. A good mix of ambient, task and accent lighting makes the personal space efficient or cozy, as per the requirement. Earlier, the Indian market was only limited to foreign brands that offered luxurious light designs. Today there are a few Indian brands that offer amazing designs in this segment. Their products are not just available in India but also showcased in the international arena, which is a remarkable feat. “Luxury lights can be incorporated as decorative as well as ambient lighting within a space. They hold the potential to be the sculptural focus of a room, just as well as they can be used to create a specific mood or set the tone for the decor scheme. Decorative fixtures in particular add to the vibrancy and exuberance of the space they inhabit and create visually engaging perspectives. They add an extra dimension to a room and can make a room appear larger,” concludes Vishal.
