A selection of mango inspired dishes at the festival

My favourite fruit is the mango and when I received an invite to attend the Summer Delight Mango Festival at My Fortune Bengaluru, I did not think twice before saying yes. And trusting my instincts has much to do with the fact that the very able team of chefs lead by Sachin Talwar, Executive Chef at ITC My Fortune has always been the kind that can surprise you and up the ante as far as the food is concerned.

As soon as we enter, Chef Sachin greeted me warmly and explained, “we have a small focused menu for the mango festival and we have tried to incorporate all kinds of cuisine.” The menu has a  range of innovative and delectable mango dishes on offer including the Mango and Philadelphia parcels, Mango Chicken Chaat and Prawn Melon, Mango salad,  Mango Spring rolls, Stuffed chicken breasts with cinnamon mango sauce, Manga Kozhi Curry served with steamed rice among others. Desserts include Mango Coconut & Pineapple smoothie,  Aam ki Rasmalai,  Aam ki kulfi and Alphonso cheesecake.

We started the meal with a superbly crafted Aam Panna that balanced the sweet and sour taste to perfection. The menu has a selection of both veg and non-veg dishes and we tried the vegetarian fare. For starters, we tried the Paneer Mango salad, served on a slice of cucumber and garnished with thinly sliced papad. The entire combination comes together so well that it is hard to stop eating this. We also sampled the Mango Coconut and pineapple smoothie that has a lovely smooth texture and the coconut milk and mango combine seamlessly to create a drink that has a great taste. For the main course, we sampled a Mango Broccoli Chaat served with rice and the very delectable mango rice, cooked in a dash of ghee and curry leaves with the delectable mixed vegetable kurma. The flavours of this dish again never overpower your taste buds and the meal feels light and easy on the palate. We ended the meal with a delectable baked mango cheesecake and mango rabri with ras malai served with caramelised sugar that was shaped like a golden nest. Each dish was presented like a work of art, and this meal allowed us to enter the seasonal ‘king of fruits’ the mango with a quirky twist that comes highly recommended.
