A small community based in Mumbai, the Pathare Prabhus have a distinctive cuisine that has several culinary gems.

The Pathare Prabhus are an indigenous, colourful community in Mumbai with current estimates that state that only 6500 exist across the world, mostly still in and around Mumbai. Despite this, they have made a significant mark in the culinary map of Mumbai. They are said to be descendants from King Ashwapati of Nepal. They arrived in Mumbai in the late 13th century and developed their own special cuisine that is resplendent and exciting and yet simple to prepare. Most of the Pathare Prabhu food is easy to make and focuses on the original flavours of the ingredients, especially fish and seafood.
