Fashion and apparel trends in 2024 are set to blur the scapes of present, past and future in the predicament for stability. The onset is expected to be marked with a season of romance and surrender, which would acknowledge that everything must be treasured and loved, for it’s all fragile and often momentary. As India flexes its strength, self-sustenance and stability to contradict the west’s rudimentary sentiments, what would be manifested in our fashion is a sense of gratefulness for India’s self-reliance amidst global turmoil. Cultural roots are slated to lay a concrete foundation, with technology in the role of an advisor, enabler and supporter, to usher in a human-centric approach that helps us create a world for tomorrow.
The spring summer 2024 is a season that would encapsulate pretty much everything mentioned above. While in colours it would be represented in light and bright shades, in terms of material, the inclination is expected towards more sheer and breathable fabrics. For instance, the colour palettes to rule the trend in the coming summer range from pastel bright shades such as mint green, gulab pink, Maldivian blues and lilacs to a palette of digitally saturated tones of red, purple and teal.
The season would also mark the re-emergence of patterns inspired by classical Mughal art and culture, though in softer, dreamier renditions. Also expected is a significant influence of fantasticalness to traditional and contemporary artforms, represented with imaginative creatures, underwater life and flora, and Van Gogh style art. The season on the whole depicts distortion and volume in silhouette choices with exaggerated sleeves, playful asymmetric hemlines and mermaid core influences.
The Indian textile and apparel market size reached US$ 172.3 Billion in 2022. Looking forward, the market is expected to reach US$ 387.3 Billion by 2028, exhibiting a growth rate (CAGR) of 14.59% during 2023-2028 (Source- IMARC Group).
There are many factors contributing to this change. The undisputed increase in disposable income of the middle class with a surge in spending on fashion and accessories has been a game changer. Further the rise of e-commerce platforms have transformed the retail landscape as they have made it easier for the customers to access a wide range of fashion products. Expected rise of 110 million middle-income households will fuel this further. This opportunity is facilitating the entry of MSME’s into this market with varied products.
