The most ambitious crossovers of theatre, fashion, and sound, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, reimagined as India’s first all-male pop opera—a high-energy, one-hour musical directed by global music-theater pioneer Kevin Oliver and produced by Phase 1 World, which is celebrating 30 years of cultural storytelling.
Phase 1 was born in Bangalore 30 years ago, and while we’ve worked across the world since then, their roots have always been right here.
A classic Broadway musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice should be on your Saturday itinerary as it is all set to unfold in never-before-seen format.
The production features:
- 16 genre-fluid tracks blending gospel, jazz-funk, Broadway ballads, pop, rock, Indian classical, and disco.
- A never-before-used 9-part narrator format that adds rich texture and pacing to the story.
- And at its emotional core, a stripped-down rendition of “Any Dream Will Do” that’s been leaving audiences teary-eyed in rehearsals.
Bangalore has always been a city of culture, but it hasn’t always had the infrastructure or ecosystem to match its creative energy. With this musical, the team wanted to honour that legacy while also creating a bold, new moment. More than anything the hope is that it encourages other creators, whether it’s musicians, designers, or theatre lovers, to dream bigger, collaborate more, and help shape the next chapter of the city’s cultural story.
This cast has given their hearts to the production. Watching them evolve has been one of the most fulfilling things the director has experienced. Visually, the show is couture-meets-stage drama. Styled by Michael Cinco and Furne One Amato (the forces behind Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and Aishwarya Rai’s most iconic looks), it features custom-created costumes—anchored by a 21-kilo technicolor coat crafted using over 30 fabrics and engineered to shimmer with every scene.
