The Many Lives of the Cat, is inspired by art historian B.N. Goswamy’s book The Indian Cat: Stories, Paintings, Poetry, and Proverbs.
I met curator Khushi Bansal at MAP who took me through this interesting exhibition that shows how Indian artists have portrayed the cat as a subversive, political, mischievous, and whimsical figure.

Showcasing works of Jamini Roy, K.G. Subramanyan, Chandana Hore and Bhupendra Baghel, among many others there are textile labels, matchboxes, sculptures, sketch books and more.

Check out a doll next to the sketchbooks that was probably used for a Golu display at some point, because it’s a terracotta figure. Incidentally, the conservation team did a fantastic job conserving that, because it was very broken, it was very faded, and they really were able to restore it.
