The capital city of Sri Lanka, Colombo has several layers that are waiting to be discovered one place at a time.

I have visited Colombo a few times but it is a city that has surprised me each time. On this trip where I stayed at Cinnamon Grand, I had the opportunity to explore some unusual facets of the city with Deshanee Wijayasinghe, now Director PR & Communications Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts.

Setting off in a Tuk Tuk, we explored several unusual sights in the city including:

  • Colombo National Museum
  • Kotte Ruins of the palace
  • Beddagana Wetland Park
  • Rajamaha Viharaya
  • Archaeological Museum in Kotte

And if you are wondering where to stay, look no further than the City of Dreams Sri Lanka South Asia’s first integrated resort. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Colombo’s waterfront, City of Dreams reimagines luxury, entertainment, and cultural immersion. The landmark destination features a state-of-the-art casino and entertainment zone operated by Melco, an 800-key luxury hotel, signature dining concepts, and immersive venues for global performances and cultural showcases. Key highlights include:

  • 800 rooms and suites, including the 113-key ultra-luxury Nüwa hotel under Melco’s flagship brand.
  • The 687-key luxury hotel Cinnamon Life, launched in October 2024.
Expansive MICE facilities designed to host global business events and conventions.
A state-of-the-art casino and entertainment zone, operated by Melco, to international luxury gaming standards.
  • A premium shopping and lifestyle promenade.
  • A curated collection of signature dining experiences involving internationally acclaimed chefs.
  • Immersive entertainment spaces for international performances and cultural showcases.
