The city of Bengaluru has a fascinating history with its postal system and is also home to South India’s oldest post box.

August 18, 2023, was a special day in Bengaluru’s postal history as the city saw the first 3D printed post office come to life at Cambridge Layout. the city also has the first evening post office that is open until 9 pm for the benefit of office goers.

The city’s GPO itself is not an old building but still a majestic one. There is an interesting postal museum as well in the city.

There are two buildings that are however important in the city’s postal history. The first is the Beaulieu, the Circle Office of Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle that was built in 1832, by Lancelot Ricketts is on Palace Road. The second is the Mail Motor Service, a functioning postal service that is used to send packages in the bright coloured red vans between post offices and other places on Millers Road.
