Achala comes from European luxury. She worked as a luxury marketer across heritage brands and studied at IUM Monaco. Her background gave her a front-row seat to how global fashion houses operate. She watched Dior, Burberry, and other European luxury brands source extensively from Indian artisans and craftspeople. But here’s what struck her: while these global houses built their reputation partly on Indian craft, the artisans themselves remained invisible, underpaid, and undiscovered in their own country. And that’s how Mrja was formed.

Mrja is India’s first curated, tech-enabled fashion platform that positions independent Indian labels and artisans as premium global brands. It’s not a marketplace in the traditional sense. Achala hand-selects every brand that gets on the platform. Every product gets quality tested and wash tested before it goes live. The goal is simple: bridge Indian makers with discerning global customers who value craft, quality, and storytelling.

Mrja works with over 25 independent labels, including Doodlage, Huemn, Upasana, Karohouse, Ode to Odd, The Summer House, Eclat, Chi Studio, Undenim, and many others. Each brand has strong design integrity and a distinct narrative.

Mrja combines three things. First, technology: AI-based fit prediction, brand transparency ratings, and direct communication between customers and brands to solve real shopping problems. Second, curation: every brand is hand-selected and rigorously tested. Third, storytelling: seasonal edits and immersive pop-ups that connect customers to the makers behind the products.

Achala recently took Mrja to pop-ups in New York (Normal NYC Holiday) and Brooklyn Show, introducing Indian fashion to international audiences. She’s also done successful pop-ups in Goa and Bangalore. The customer base is concentrated but loyal—35% of buyers account for over 80% of sales, indicating strong brand affinity.

What Achala is doing shifts the entire narrative around Indian fashion. Instead of positioning Indian craft as affordable or budget-friendly, she’s positioning it as premium. She’s proving that Indian designers can compete with European luxury on quality, design, and storytelling.

Achala understands luxury ecosystems, international markets, artisan economics, consumer behavior around sustainability, and the future of retail. She can speak to why global brands value Indian craft, why independent designers struggle for visibility at home, how technology changes luxury retail, and why slow fashion is becoming the standard for discerning consumers.
