Face Contouring

Face contouring is all about changing the shape of the face and facial features that can be achieved with the careful application of contour cosmetics

Contour cosmetics include highlighters, shaders, blushers. They are available in powder, liquid and cream forms. Highlighters draw attention towards (they emphasize). Shaders draw attention away (they minimize). Blushers add warmth to the face and emphasize facial contours.

If your face is elongated, we need to contour by making a cut on the forehead and chin side and ensure that you don’t give a chiselled look as it will make the face look more oblong. But if the person has a small forehead, the cut from there will not work. With experience I can say that your eyes are the best judge as you can look at a face and decide where to contour and highlight,” says Indra Ahluwalia Ludhiana, Founder, Grace Beauty.

Round face usually has no sharp features so we cut from the sides of the forehead and cheek bones and try to aim for a chiselled look. For a square face we cut the sides and emphasise the chin and contouring can be done below the chin to make the face look slightly longer. For a heart shaped face, it is broader on the upper part, we cut the broader part,” says Indra.

Another important thing to keep in mind is the texture of the contour product. There are various types of textures in contour that come in powder, liquid, and stick form. “Cream and stick contour is used when you want to give a more precise and dewy effect with your makeup and powder contour is used for matte effect. The thumb-rule while choosing the texture is cream on cream and powder on powder. If you are using a creamy contour, it should be used after applying foundation and powder contour is to be used after using translucent powder,” says Indra. The idea is that contouring and highlighting is all about getting a perfect 3D look. And as no two faces are alike, it is all about making the shape right. With these tips make sure you use the contouring option well to shine and glow.
