India’s Mangrove Forests

Mangroves are an eco system that are fascinating – they are not just pleasing visually but act as a carbon sponge and coastal guardian.

Mangroves are increasingly dotting India’s coasts as they not just help weather cyclones but are also carbon sinks creating a wonderful biodiversity.

In the recent years of my travel, I have noticed a spurt in mangroves across India. I first noticed them in Goad and soon near Udupi. This is close to a small village called Saligrama and I was pleasantly surprised to note that this is where locals have started kayaking and boating to boost tourism.

Mangroves however are an ecosystem that fosters amazing biodiversity and it is said they help weather storms, foster marine life and capture carbon.
