Niṟaṅṅaḷ Mansion is a 11000 Sq.ft. home in Kasargod, Kerala that has a curated collection of art, decor, and aesthetics by architects and designers Afnan and Arun of Humming Tree.
When businessman Abdul Ashraf and his wife homemaker, Shahnaz approached Mohammed Afnan and Arun Shekar of Humming Tree, they wanted a home that reflected their love for art and architecture.
“We wanted to tell a story with respect to each space, as you see every part of the house has a distinctive character of its own, be it materiality, texture, style, colour, mood and fabric. It is all just a physiological understanding from the past. Our clients gave a lot of freedom to design and play with forms and colours. We decided to not stick to any norms, by doing this it eased us in mixing, matching, and trying to establish new vocabulary in space making, that is how we kind of tailored the entire house together,” says Arun.
The home has hidden camouflaged mirrored cabinets reflecting the geometric flooring as well. The accessories have been handpicked across locations from Marché de la Création, flea market at Mattancherry, and Kochi’s Timothy’s colourful collection.
Utilitarian chic – Afnan & Arun are huge believers in this philosophy. “We love the sculptural furniture, it is a great amalgamation of character and culture yet comfortable for a modern-day home. We feel those softer shapes and voluminous objects of desire will be a big trend in 2022.”
