Shimoga Travelogue

A city that is often off the tourist track, Shimoga is a city that has many sights and sounds that are waiting to be discovered.

I went to Shimoga for the first time in 2003 and years later last month. The city has naturally changed a lot and now has a spanking new golf retreat at Kimmane Golf Resort, the brainchild of Jairam Gundappa Gowda  where I stayed for a few days to explore the many sights of the city.

The retreat has a nine-hole golf course over a spacious 65 acres of land. A sprawling 3236-yard course with freshly trimmed grass makes this a perfect weekend getaway.

Kimmane makes sure that leisure is on the top of your priority list with their offerings. Kayak on the lake that rings the golf course and take in the tranquillity and peace, or take a deep dive into their 72 sq. feet pool that overlooks the magnificent Western Ghats. Follow your swim up with a good rest on the sun loungers with a delish cocktail from the pool bar in your hand. For the outdoor adventurists who love a two-wheeler that makes them work their glutes, pedal across the 100-acre property on a cycle and explore the views from different corners.

Kimmane’s spa therapies are exactly what you need. Indulge in a Melo Signature massage, or opt for a Healing Hot Stone therapy to ease those stressed muscles. The spa also has delightful options for your juniors, so they don’t feel left out of the pampering. And the best part is the many unique sights that surround the city.
