A Mumbai-based designer, architect, and artist whose practice integrates long-held traditions with a contemporary visual and sculptural language, Shah combines an aesthetic rooted in principles of simplicity with a commitment to the reveal of Indian technical craft. Shah was named one of the Top 50 Interior Designers in India by Architectural Digest in 2014, 2015, and 2016, as well as Elle Decor Designer of the Year in 2016
Focusing on materiality, this new collection will be anchored by copper as both a material and idea. The same way that the Copper Age marked a moment of transition for humanity, this exhibition marks a key moment in Ashiesh Shah’s practice, where art becomes bracketless. The surfaces in this collection reflect the intent of the artist – for copper to respond to touch, air, time, and transfiguration – in an engineering method that is woven, held, and structured in copper. The material is allowed to deepen and evolve, with this collection standing as an ode to transformation – rooted in history, shaped by the present, and open to what comes next.
