
The harvest festival of Sankranti or Pongal as it is called in Tamil Nadu is all about paying homage to a new crop.
Naturally rice is the star ingredient in this process and one dish that is synonymous with the festival is Pongal.
A simple mix of rice and lentils, this wholesome dish is an integral part of the festivities. Spiced with simple ingredients – cashew, cumin, pepper, ginger and curry leaves, it packs a punch of good health too. The dish is best served with a dollop of ghee.
