A 11 day festival that aims to showcase the vibrant city of Bengaluru is full of art, culture, food, technology and crafts – much like the city.
As the Unboxing BLR Habba reaches its grand finale, here is what you can do this action-packed weekend to understand the city’s vibrant ethos.
A city that has many layers, Bangalore is like no other and this is the ethos behind the 11-day Unboxing BLR Habba 2023 that has been conceptualised and put together by the team of Unboxing BLR. The aim of this extravaganza is to preserve and celebrate Bengaluru’s rich heritage and further reiterate the city’s growing stature on the global map.
My top pics would be these events:
Basavanagudi Elegance – Essence is a fine tribute to one of the oldest areas of the city that is known for its rich culture and heritage. This rare Photo Exhibition of 100 years of Basavanagudi has some great images of what the area looked like decades ago.
The Terminal 2 Airport art walk that brings you up-close with 60 works of art by 43 artists – a great way to showcase how the theme of navarasa is interpreted by different artists as well. he Art Programme at Terminal 2 of BLR Airport is an initiative to showcase art in a public space. There are 60 artworks displayed at key locations at T2. These commissioned artworks by 43 artists are inspired by Karnataka’s rich heritage and culture and Naurasa (nine expressions) that’s mentioned in Bharata Natyashastra.
Pettah walk in Nagarathpet : Tales of Sufis, Silk & Shakti by Bengaluru by Foot -this is an absolute must do. Led by Mohammed Asif I spent close to three hours exploring the old market area and visited the last surviving weavers inside old Bengaluru who are engaged in the process of reeling & dyeing silk yarn as well as weaving it. The Karaga temple and sufi dargah were also visited and interesting stories heard. (thank you to the team of Unboxing BLR Habba (UBH) 2023 for sponsoring this walk for me)
