Winter weather can have both positive and negative effects on hair. On the upside, the lower humidity levels in winter contribute to reduced frizz, making hair easier to manage and style.
The colder temperatures also slow down the production of scalp oils, benefiting those with oily hair by maintaining a cleaner look for a longer duration. Additionally, the decrease in sweating during winter means less salt accumulation on the scalp, which ca n be advantageous for individuals prone to scalp issues related to sweat.
However, there are downsides to winter weather as well. The lack of moisture in the cold air can lead to increased dryness, making the hair shaft more prone to dehydration and breakage. The drier air can also cause an accumulation of static electricity in the hair, resulting in frizz and flyaways. Furthermore, lower humidity levels may lead to a dry scalp, potentially causing irritation, dandruff, or flakiness. Exposure to harsh winter elements, such as wind and cold air, can make hair more brittle and susceptible to damage.
