Restaurant safety has come under the scanner of the Government after the Mudpipe Café incident that has prompted the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to swing into action.

BBMP has ordered the closing down of 21 pubs and restaurants in the city and issued notices to 167 others for flouting various regulations including those related to fire safety. The BBMP team has cited lack of hygiene, improper waste disposal, non-compliance with public and fire safety guidelines and running rooftop establishments without permission as some of the reasons behind the order.

It is essential to note that a considerable number of well-known brands had become somewhat lax in their standards post-COVID-19 restrictions. This incident serves as a wake-up call, prompting these establishments to re-evaluate their operational protocols and standards, which can ultimately lead to improved safety and hygiene standards in the long run.
