The Bhoomi Habba aims to increase public awareness of the environmental crises and showcase inclusive and sustainable alternatives. The festival is a day-long celebration filled with environmental campaigns, exhibitions and shows, art workshops, theatre and dance performances, storytelling, folk music, and much more. The Habba also promotes the exhibition and sale of eco-friendly crafts, organic farm produce, and traditional and millet foods from all over the country.
The focus this year is on the water crisis in Bangalore. This year’s theme aims to foster conversations and explore solutions for a water-secure future. The festival this year will also have the following: Folk Dance by Timbaktu Theatre Troupe, Kalari by Bandhavi, performance by Indian Folk band- Balu Djembe, Eco Film Screening, Theatre Workshop, Community Painting, Traditional Games, Cartooning, Warli Drawing, Handmade papermaking, Art workshop for senior citizens, Soil Exhibition, Art Exhibitions apart from the talks and activities.
“Mahika Morr’s workshop inspires a sense of wonder by helping us rediscover the forgotten greenery in our own neighbourhoods. Anjali’s exhibition invites us to a captivating exploration of the interconnectedness of water, soil, insects, and mycelium. Akhils Nature-themed paintings are a reminder to cherish and protect our precious planet, celebrating its timeless wisdom, culture, and boundless beauty. I’m thrilled to have brought these talented artists to the Bhoomi Habba platform,” says Jeena, who coordinates workshops and events at the festival.
The food festival at the Bhoomi Habba features diverse, traditional foods and is a big draw at the Bhoomi Habba. They combine good taste with environmental consciousness. The Timbaktu Collective’s outlets, for instance, features a wide range of millet foods that require far less water to cultivate and are ideal in a world affected by climate change. The Bhoomi Habba is from 10am – 7pm on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the Visthar campus, off Hennur Main Road.
