Say tea and the immediate connotation that strikes one’s mind is Darjeeling tea. And with good reason as I discovered on a recent visit to Sterling Darjeeling.
Sterling Darjeeling is located at the highest point in Darjeeling with a spectacular view of the Kanchenjunga, this 101-room property is spread over 6.4 acres and is next to the Ghoom monastery, the oldest in this region.
The best way to understand the nuances of making tea, specifically the orthodox tea that Darjeeling is well known for is to opt for an experiential on the property where a tea activity is conducted where you are explained about tea plucking methods, kinds of tea and why Darjeeling tea is special. You can also pick tea in a basket wearing a traditional dress as well.
The in house activity specialist conducts this with much enthusiasm and you will clearly understand the various kinds of teas made in Darjeeling and how they differ from teas in the rest of the country.
