Kalimpong is a quint hill station in West Bengal that is perfect if you looking for a quiet getaway amidst the hills.
On a recent visit to Sterling Park Kalimpong, built in the 1900s, and was once the summer retreat of the Maharaja of Dinajpur, I had the opportunity to see the quaint town. The retreat itself is a British Colonial-styled house and sprawling estate have been lovingly converted into a hotel while preserving much of the original grandeur and character. Perched atop a hill at an altitude of 4,100 feet, Sterling Park Kalimpong offers breathtaking views of the majestic Kanchenjunga range and surrounding peaks. For over four decades now, a section of this historic estate has been welcoming guests as a landmark heritage hotel in the charming town of Kalimpong.
Sterling Park Kalimpong is located close to several interesting attractions in the Kalimpong area, adding to the appeal of the heritage hotel. Guests can visit the Durpin Monastery, one of the largest Buddhist monasteries in West Bengal, and enjoy panoramic views from its hilltop location. The Pine View Nursery, a private nursery known for its exotic cactus collection, is another unique attraction nearby. For nature lovers, the picturesque Lamahatta Eco Park, with its beautiful roadside garden, is a must-visit. Thrill-seekers can try their hand at white water rafting on the Teesta River, a popular activity in the region. Those looking for a bird’s eye view of Kalimpong can head to Deolo Hill Park, which also offers opportunities for paragliding. With so many leisure hotspots in close proximity, Sterling Park Kalimpong provides the perfect base for travelers to explore the best of Kalimpong’s natural beauty, culture and adventure activities, all while immersed in the comfort and historic charm of their heritage hotel accommodation.
