Coonoor is one town that I will visit in a heartbeat and when I was invited for a restaurant review recently, it did not take me long to say yes.
And turned out I experienced a great meal at the Restopub, Hopscotch. Established in 2017, Hopscotch was founded by Nikhil and Nitin Suresh, scions of a distinguished hotelier family from Coonoor. Hopscotch was born out of the need for a vibrant nightlife venue in Coonoor. Recognizing this gap, Nikhil and Nitin Suresh created a lively, country-themed Resto-Pub that stands out with its dynamic atmosphere, eclectic music, and delicious food.
Spanning 2,500 square feet and offering a stunning view of the hills in Coonoor, Hopscotch exudes a Wild West country charm with classic yet playful furnishings. The pub features a cosy sit-out smoking area and a unique ‘bar-cade’ filled with fun games like Spin Wheel, Fish the Beer, and the Hammer Challenge, where guests can win beers and snacks.
The pub also hosts a wide array of gigs, from retro and blues to rock n roll, country, indie, and popular DJ sets, catering to various musical preferences and ensuring a lively atmosphere for all visitors.
Hopscotch distinguishes itself with its unique offerings, such as signature cocktails and instantly made bread from a wood-fired oven. Their menu includes items like the salt beef sarni, sourced specifically for the pub, and dishes made with naturally harvested wild honey from the Nilgiris forests. Most ingredients are locally sourced, supporting local farms and ensuring fresh, high-quality produce.
Signature cocktails include the Mulled Wine Sangria, Hopscotch Hot Toddy, and the Pomme Chuckle, made in collaboration with Havukal Estate, featuring apple-infused tea from the estates.
For those visiting Coonoor or Ooty, Hopscotch offers an unforgettable country-themed Resto-Pub experience. With its lively musical ambiance, signature cocktails, and delectable food, Hopscotch blends local charm with diverse entertainment, making it a must-visit destination in the Nilgiris.
Hopscotch is not just a pub; it’s a place where you can relax, enjoy good company, and leave with a bunch of new friends. Whether you’re a local or a traveller, Hopscotch promises a memorable experience filled with the unique vibe of a small hill town.
