Talking about engineered wood floorings, we use state-of-the-art wood coatings that not only look good but are very tough and durable too. One of the main considerations is that the coating (the finish on top of the wood layer) should be hard enough to take day-to-day abrasion that would come from the dust underneath the shoes when they come from outside. Depending on the type of coating used, the maintenance regimen can vary. For example, our Matt lacquered floors finish, as a best practice, requires a maintenance coat once every few years depending on the traffic. This is very similar to other natural floorings such as Italian or Indian marble. The maintenance cycle is short, quick, and non-messy and renews the top layer once again for many years of use.
