
Come Navratri or Dasara as it is called in Karnataka, there is a palpable excitement in most traditional households as it is time to display dolls that are carefully stashed away for a year.
The tradition of doll keeping is something that has been passed down from centuries. There are several interesting stories behind the concept as well.
Traditionally the dolls are figurines of Gods and Goddesses but in today’s times there are a variety of dolls that are displayed.
Many people also do thematic displays like for example having doll sets that depict the Ramayana or instances of the Mahabharata.
One of the largest display and sale of dolls is at Mysore’s Ramsons Kala Pratishtana (RKP), a store that promotes traditional handicrafts.
