Scalp Exfoliation

Spread the love

Scalp exfoliation is an important step of the hair care routine. This is just like skin exfoliation. Almost anybody can enjoy scalp exfoliation. Gentle exfoliation can scrub the scalp and make your hair healthy and making it easier to style. It can also help in getting rid of the itching and build-up because of sweat and oil build-up that happens when you don’t wash your hair for a few days. If you notice any of the follow conditions with your hair and scalp then exfoliation is just the right thing for you

  • Product buildup that causes the hair to look weighed down, greasy and limp
  • Dandruff
  • Psoriasis
  • Seborrheic dermatitis

If you have a delicate scalp and seeing a dermatologist for skin conditions such as psoriasis then ask them about the right scalp exfoliation product and method.

Advantages

  • Improves blood circulation in the scalp and promotes healthy and increased hair growth.
  • Prevents product build-up by cleansing your scalp letting the follicles breathe more comfortably.
  • Exfoliation can be a part of dandruff and dry scalp treatment by removing lose flakes of skin and reducing itchiness.
  • Promotes shiner hair by removing hard water and styling product build-ups.
  • Cleans scalp boosts the effectiveness of other hair care products as they can penetrate deeper.

A cleaner scalp is a healthier scalp. How much or how often should you exfoliate depends on the person and the scalp issues and type.

  • Start with exfoliating once a week and then move twice a week if you have an oily, greasy, dry, dandruff-ridden scalp.
  • Use it twice a week if you are a physical fitness enthusiast or use a lot of hair products.
  • If you have a normal scalp then once a week or 10 days is fine.
  • Oily scalp needs more frequent exfoliation like twice a week.
  • If you have recently coloured your hair then exfoliate once a week to remove residual colour from hair.

Avoid over-exfoliating at all costs. If your scalp feels red, sore, itchy, or sensitive then it is an indication that you are overdoing the exfoliation.

Tips

  • The first advice is to never exfoliate a dry scalp. Spray some water to dampen the scalp before starting the exfoliation process. Exfoliation, shampoo, and conditioner should be the standard process. The conditioner should be a hydrating one otherwise scalp will not be hydrated and hair will become dry and frizzy.
  • Be gentle to your scalp. Massage in all parts of the scalp. Don’t leave the chemical exfoliant for too long as it may damage the scalp. Make sure you clean the exfoliant from your hair before conditioning.
